Best Cheap Vacuums for Carpet

Best Brands: Hoover, Shark, Panasonic

For under $250, you can get an excellent vacuum for your home or business carpet from some of the best brands out there, including Hoover and Shark, two brands known for great vacuums.  Even if you are on a budget, you do not have to sacrifice quality to get a vacuum you can afford.

These vacuums really suck – in the good way, picking up your carpet messes with ease of use, easy set up, easy maintenance, and best of all they are easy on your pocket book.

Reviewers adored these models for their light weight, easy use, that some of them converted into canister models for use on things other than floors (upholstery, stairs, etc), adjustability, great filters, and more.

Best Cheap Vacuums for Hardwood or Tile

Best Brands:  Hoover, Shark, Dyson

Alright, the Dyson is a little more expensive than some people may want to go for, at around $350 depending on retailer and whether it is new or gently used, but they have a great multi-surface vacuum.  Other than that one, the rest of these brands offer up models under $200!

These brands are great with their multi-surface models!  Go from tile to hardwood and back, and with most of them you can even do carpet as well!  A simple height adjustment is needed on some of them, in order to compensate for the different surface type, but that is usually a basic turn of a dial within arm’s reach.

Reviewers loved these models for their amazing suction, perfect ability to clean both hardwood and tile safely and efficiently, some even having rotating brushes to scrub off stuck on dirt and grime (in, say, a mud or laundry room, or highly traveled area).  They also loved that most of these models are bagless and take a simple filter wipe or wash and a quick dump of the collection reservoir into the trash can – simply remove it, dump it, put it back in, and keep going.

Best Cheap Vacuums for Pet Hair

Best Brands: Hoover, Eureka, Bissel

Ever feel like you hear about those brands a lot?  That’s because, very simply put, they make a great product.  With these brands, you can’t really go wrong, especially when it comes to getting up tough messes, like extra pet hair, and big messes.  Each of the models used for the brands listed above got 4 stars or better and all cost under $200.

Reviewers loved how efficient these models were for the price, how well they picked up even the thickest patches of pet hair, as well as the ease of cleaning out the vacuum after taking care of such a huge mess.  They also said that these were all easy to put together when they didn’t come pre-assembled.

With most of these high-powered, affordable vacuums, many reviewers also made the comment that they pick up more than their non-pet hair counterparts – not just pet hair!  These vacuums cleaned deep down into the carpet, picking up dirt, dust and allergens that could have caused problems with allergy sufferers.

Best Cheap Vacuums for Stairs

Best Brands: Bissell, Dirt Devil, Eureka, (yes, again) Hoover

For the most part, stairs are a pain to try and vacuum.  You either have to precariously lean the vacuum so it doesn’t go rolling down the stairs, and worry about whether or not your extension cord will reach, and whether or not you have the right attachment.  Is yourhose long enough, or will it tip the vacuum cleaner over and send it, and possibly you, down the steps?

Well, there are some that you won’t have a single worry about using on your staircase.  Generally speaking, canister vacuums will do the trick every time.  They’re powerful enough to be used on your regular floors, too, but perfectly compact for use on stairs, offer up longer cords and hoses so that you can get up and down your carpeted stairs with ease, and much more.

Reviewers loved these models for their compact size, ease of use, and great suction and ability to pick up quite a lot on stairs, including hair and basic messes.  They said they are easy to clean and empty.  One of the best things about most of these canister vacuums is that you don’t have to kneel down on your hands and knees to use them – many of them will have some form of rigid portion to their hoses at the end, so you don’t have to bend down or crawl around your home to get the job done.

As a side note, Hoover offers up a vacuum for under $200 that is both an upright and, with a small conversion, a canister vacuum, in case you want something even easier.

Best Cheap Lightweight and Stick Vacuums

Best Brands: Dirt Devil, Hoover, Bissell, Eureka

Not only are these lightweight and affordable, they are also powerful, and work wonders.  Mostly good for use on smaller messes and areas, some models can handle large jobs just as well as the “big” vacuum cleaners that are more expensive, heavier, and harder to manage.  These types of vacuums can even be found for as little as $20 on Amazon.com!  Who can pass that up?

These work great on multiple surfaces (tile, hardwood, carpet), and are perfect for smaller areas, like apartments and dorms, as well as working up to a full sized house quite well.

Reviewers loved how lightweight and easy to use these brands offered up models in.  They also last long – some reviewers have had their models for over ten years and they are still picking up every bit.  They also said that most of these work perfectly for pet hair and pet messes (spilled food, litter, etc), and are perfect for office use at their business, while still being great on plush carpeting at home.
